When 4TB makes sense
- Large installed libraries: keep 40 to 60 big games ready to play.
- Content plus gaming: room for game captures, mods and projects.
- Future-proofing: headroom for the next wave of 150GB+ titles.
- Not ideal if value per terabyte is your priority: 2TB wins there.
Three-tier recommendation
| Tier | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Value | Lexar NM790 4TB | Cheapest big Gen4 capacity |
| Balanced | Crucial T500 / WD_BLACK SN850X 4TB | DRAM, fast, reliable |
| Premium | Samsung 990 Pro 4TB | Top speed and warranty |
Honest trade-off
4TB is convenience, not value: expect to pay more per terabyte than a 2TB drive. If you can live with occasionally uninstalling a game, a 2TB drive saves money; if you want it all installed, 4TB is worth it.
