High-refresh 1440p and playable 4K
This bracket is defined by the RTX 5070 Ti and RX 9070 XT. Both carry 16GB of VRAM and enough compute to run maxed-out 1440p at high frame rates, or 4K at 60fps and above once you enable DLSS or FSR. They are the enthusiast sweet spot: a large jump over the tier below without the steep flagship premium.
The choice mirrors the tier below it. NVIDIA's RTX 5070 Ti holds a clear ray-tracing and DLSS advantage; AMD's RX 9070 XT often wins on raw rasterised frames per pound. Let the live price break the tie.
Do not overbuy
If you game at 1080p or 1440p, a card at the top of this bracket is more than enough, and you may be better served spending less on an RTX 5070 or RX 9070 and putting the difference toward a faster monitor or CPU. The RTX 5070 Ti and RX 9070 XT only fully stretch their legs at 4K or on very high-refresh 1440p panels.
